Lawyers for alleged USS Cole bomber request investigation into detention in Poland

Jurist reports on September 22, 2010, in an article entitled "Lawyers for alleged USS Cole bomber request investigation into detention in Poland," that a human rights group and lawyers for Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri have filed a request Tuesday with Polish prosecutors for an investigation into al-Nashiri's detention and treatment at a secret CIA prison in Poland. Earlier this September, an ex-CIA agent confirmed (in an article available through Spiegel here) that torture methods were used against al-Nashiri in 2002 at a prison in Poland.

Al-Nashiri, a Saudi man, is accused of his connection to the 2000 USS Cole attack. One human rights group has noted that the filing represents the first attempt by an extraordinary rendition victim to seek a legal remedy within the Polish court system.
