Court rejects Gitmo detainee appeal over secrecy

The Associated Press reports on October 8, 2010 in an article entitled "Court rejects Gitmo detainee appeal over secrecy," that Guantanamo Bay detainee Djamel Ameziane, who says he was waterboarded, lost a legal battle Friday when a federal appeals court ruled the Obama administration can keep information secret that the prisoner sought to make public.

In a 3-0 decision, the appeals court said that the U.S. District Judge had failed to give substantial deference "to the government's assessment of its foreign relations and national security interests" if certain information were to be revealed.
