ProPublica: White House Wanted Simultaneous Federal Trials and Military Tribunals for Detainees

ProPublica reports that a White House meeting last August solidified the administration’s commitment to simultaneous prosecutions of Guantanamo detainees in federal court and military commissions.

According to the report, the commitment among top U.S. officials was that “[n]o military trials would be held anywhere unless trials in federal courtrooms were held at the same time.”

That policy is being tested with a New York Times report of January 20  that new military commissions will soon be authorized.
