If you happen to be in Pittsburgh tomorrow, Wednesday, March 16, 2011, there will be an event that promises to be very challenging.  Alfredo Corchado, a journalist under constant death threats from the drug cartels in Mexico, will speak about what is happening in Mexico and how it impact U.S. security as well.  Former Attorney General Dick Thornburgh will also speak.  (I'll be there.) The American Experience Distinguished Lecture Series – “Midnight In Mexico: Descent Into Darkness”


The Honors College and the Dick Thornburgh Forum along with the Ridgway Center are co-sponsoring a lecture presented by Alfredo Corchado, Mexico Bureau Chief for the Dallas Morning News beginning at 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 16 at the Twentieth Century Club in Oakland.

Mr. Corchado will discuss Mexico’s accelerating violence and a search for hope from both sides of the border amid the bloodiest period since the 1910 Revolution. Discussion moderators will include: Former Governor Dick Thornburgh, Phil Williams, Cindy Skrzycki, and David Shribman. This event is free, but seating is limited.  Visit or call 412-624-1514.
