Treasury Sanctions Alleged Terrorist Financiers, Haqqani Network Member – WSJ

According to a September 29, 2011 article in the Wall Street Journal, the U.S. Treasury Department initiated sanctions against five men who allegedly funnel monetary and other support to extremist groups such as al-Qaeda and the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan.

The article quoted David S. Cohen, Under-Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, who stated "These financiers and facilitators provide the fuel for the Taliban, Haqqani Network and al-Qaeda to realize their violent aspirations."

Pursuant to the sanctions, American citizens are barred from engaging in transactions with any of the individuals and freezes any assets that they may have in the U.S.
