Feds: Tarek Mehanna was al-Qaeda mouthpiece – Boston Herald

According to an October 28, 2011 article in the Boston Herald, opening statements in the trial of Tarek Mehanna took place on Friday. Mehanna is charged with conspiring to provide material support to al-Qaeda and faces life in prison if convicted. The case is being tried in the U.S. District Court of Massachusetts.

Believed to have been an integral part of al-Qaeda's "media department," federal prosecutors argued that Mehanna was recruited by al-Qaeda to translate works by Ayman al-Zawahri in 2005.
