Prosecutor: Women Knew al-Shabab Involved In Terrorism – AP

According to an October 4, 2011 Associated Press article featured on NPR.org, two U.S. citizens of Somali descent are charged with conspiracy to provide material support to al-Shabab, a designed foreign terrorist organization.

According to federal authorities, Ali and Hawo Mohamed Hassan conspired to provide financial support to al-Shabab by sending approximately $8,600 to the organization between September 2008 and July 2009. Ali's defense attorney asserts that his client did not know that al-Shabab was a designated foreign terrorist organization. The State Department added the organization to it's foreign terrorist organization list in 2008.
