Witness says suspect wanted to fight Americans in Iraq, hope to participate in jihad – Washington Post

On November 17, 2011, the Washington Post reported that Daniel Maldonado, an "American in prison for training at a terrorist camp in Somalia" testified for the government in the case against Tarek Mehanna.

According to the article, Maldonado testified that while watching jihadist videos, "Mehanna reacted 'with an air of pleasure' while watching the videos, and they often talked about their hope to participate in jihad."  Maldonado also testified that Mehanna justified the September 11 attacks as "The benefits outweighed the loss, then therefore it was permissible."
