NYC man gets 27 years in homegrown terror case – WSJ

On March 2, 2012 the Wall Street Journal reported that Betim Kaziu, a Brooklyn resident, received a 27 year prison sentence for conspiracy to provide material support to a designated terrorist organization.  According to the article, Kaziu was apprehended after a failed attempt to join al-Qaida during a trip to the Middle East.
