U.S. drone strikes in sharp decline in Pakistan – CNN

On March 27, 2012 CNN's national security blog provided a summary of a recent study conducted by the New American Foundation that concluded that "The past year has seen the number of CIA drone strikes in Pakistan plummet."  According to the article, "In the first three months of 2012, there were 11, compared with 21 in the first three months of 2011 and a record 28 in the first quarter of 2010."

The drop is attributed to a recent push by some State and Defense Department officials for "more selective drone strikes."  Accordingly, CNN reports that the government has implemented new procedures, providing a larger role for the State Department and advance notice to Pakistan of some strikes.
