Pentagon Plans to Swiftly Remove Ban on Women Combat Roles

The Washington Post recently reported that the Pentagon has announced its intent to “expeditiously” implement a policy integrating female soldiers into combat units.

The previous policy, according to The Post, banned women from serving in ground combat roles and, according to General Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has probably contributed to the high rate of military sexual assault and sexual harassment cases.

President Obama commented on the changes saying:

This milestone reflects the courageous and patriotic service of women through more than two centuries of American history and the indispensable role of women in today’s military.
