President Obama Announces Nominations for New National Security Team

Jan 12th, 2013 Current Affairs

Last Monday President Obama publicly announced his nominations for his new national security team, according to the Washington Examiner. Former Nebraska Republican Senator Chuck Hagel has been nominated as the next Secretary of Defense, drawing objections from democrats and republicans alike, and John Brennan, a 25-year C.I.A. veteran, has been nominated as the next Director of the C.I.A.

President Obama commented on Hagel’s nomination, in part, as follows:

Chuck Hagel is the leader that our troops deserve. He is an American patriot. He enlisted in our Army, volunteered for Vietnam, and first as a private, then as a sergeant, he served with honor alongside his own brother.
